Fabulous opposites
Bustling Brockenhurst and tranquil Beaulieu
Tranquil and timeless, the historic village of Beaulieu is a jewel in The New Forest crown.
Home to the National Motor Museum, the village centre is steeped in history and the millpond which sits alongside the village is the perfect scenic spot for a Hampshire Fare picnic.
Ten minutes from Beaulieu is the bustling village of Brockenhurst, the largest in The New Forest. Here ponies, donkeys and even cows calmly stroll the streets alongside the shoppers, poking their heads into shops that catch their eye. At the end of the village is the Watersplash Ford where the small Lymington River gently crosses the main road, an iconic New Forest scene.
This area is home to some amazing New Forest hotels and restaurants.
Careys Manor Hotel and SenSpa – and three great restaurants

Careys Manor provides the perfect base for grown-up getaways. The historic Manor House, a former hunting lodge, has 77 bedrooms and suites, then there’s the award-winning SenSpa and no less than three restaurants.
Ingredients for the restaurants are sourced and grown locally as far as possible ensuring they go from farm to fork in the shortest possible time.
Cambium is the main Careys restaurant serving creative modern British dishes using ingredients of the season from our coast and country. As the UK forges its position as a leading wine producing region, Cambium boasts one of the largest collections of English wines in the country.
The Thai-inspired SenSpa has a stunning tranquil restaurant, Zen Garden, where Thai chefs use aromatic, ethically sourced ingredients to create vibrant dishes with authentic Thai flavours. From dishes inspired by street food favourites to recipes enjoyed in the royal palaces in Thailand, authenticity is firmly on the menu here.
Le Blaireau sits in the grounds at the front of the hotel and is described as “a little corner of France in the New Forest” with a menu inspired by regional French cooking, with a relaxed feel and Parisian pavement vibe.

The Montagu Arms Hotel, Beaulieu
The Montagu Arms Hotel is the epitome of a country house experience. Visitors arrive to a traditional reception with rich oak panelling, polished herringbone parquet and the gentle tick of a longcase clock.
In the centre of the stunning Beaulieu village, this hotel and restaurant is opulent and cosy, with soft-lit lamps and roaring fires in the winter, and a spectacular garden for the warmer months. Take a turn about their Gertrude Jekyll-inspired gardens, listen to the pond fountain designed by Giuseppe Lund, play a game of croquet on the upper terrace or take a look at their kitchen garden.
The chefs source ingredients that reflect the local landscape and create dishes to enjoy wherever you feel most comfortable. Whether that’s with the family in tow at their country pub, alfresco in the English country garden or in their smart wood-panelled dining room.

The Pig, Brockenhurst
The Pig is a charming 30-bedroom country house hotel in Brockenhurst and is the definition of ‘a restaurant with rooms’.
Everything here is driven by the gardener, forager and chef – together, they grow and find the food and the chef creates the menu around the produce. Uncomplicated and simple British garden food, true to the micro seasons and influenced by the forest and coast, with the emphasis squarely on fresh, clean flavours.
Their commitment to a 25-mile menu which can change up to twice daily for lunch and dinner service, not only supports local suppliers, but means they can be 100% certain of the provenance of their ingredients.
Stay in the house, or one of the lodges in the forest, dine in the restaurant, enjoy dinner with friends in the privacy of your own dining room or join The Pig team to go foraging through the forest or along the coast.

BearWood, Beaulieu
While this pocket of the Forest is renowned for its hotels and restaurants, there are other amazing Hampshire Fare members who are their neighbours.
At BearWood, the team fells, cuts and processes timber from the Forest – then they either sell it as sawmilled timber or transform it into unique pieces of stunning bespoke woodwork for the home, showcasing the beautiful natural grain of the wood and its tactile qualities.

Beaulieu Chocolate Studio
The historic Beaulieu High Street is home to The Beaulieu Chocolate Studio, where craftsman Trevor Smith hand-makes artisan chocolates worthy of the very best French chocolatiers.
Who wouldn’t love a box of these delights? Choose from around 30 flavours as part of a ‘hand pick your own’ selection. There’s New Forest honey truffle, stem ginger encased in dark chocolate, rum and pineapple truffle and Topaze, a delicious almond and hazelnut praline which is a popular favourite.
If you can’t get out to the Forest, the Forest chocolates can come to you thanks to online options. The Beaulieu Chocolate Studio also creates bespoke hampers which are perfect as gifts.
