The best of both worlds in the National Park
Mudeford, New Milton and Barton on Sea
This part of The New Forest offers the best of both worlds – the countryside and forests of the National Park, and its miles of stunning coast, clifftop walks and views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
It’s no surprise then, with this larder on the doorstep that this is a foodie hotspot.
Mudeford is a quaint fishing village at the juncture where Christchurch Harbour meets the sea. Unsurprisingly it’s renowned for its fish and seafood with Mudeford Quay as a hub for local fishermen. This is a great spot to watch fishing fleets come and go – and to go crabbing with the kids.
Mudeford Sandbank is one of the iconic New Forest images – with its line-up of colourful beach huts topped with stunning sun and skyscapes. The sandbank is accessible by foot, ferry, or land train from Hengistbury Head.
Avon Beach, with its soft sand, shallow waters, and views across to the Isle of Wight, is the perfect spot for a Hampshire Fare picnic.
New Milton is a thriving market town with a contemporary feel. With easy access to both the coast and countryside, and home to one of the UK’s most prestigious country house hotels, Chewton Glen.

Chewton Glen Country House Hotel
Situated less than a mile from the coast, Chewton Glen is one of the most prestigious five-star country house hotels in the UK – with an award-winning restaurant, spa, gym, outdoor pool, luxury suites, treehouses, and 130 acres of grounds.
The ‘Dining Room’ is a quintessentially English restaurant, a nexus of beautiful conservatories, intimate dining spaces and a stunning open wine room.
An open format grill menu designed by Executive Head Chef Luke Matthews, has been carefully created to showcase old Chewton Glen favourites as well as innovative creations, all cooked from amazing ingredients in season, many sourced from the hotel’s kitchen garden.

The Rising Sun at Bashley near New Milton
The Rising Sun at Bashley is a quintessentially English country pub in the National Park. With a warm, cosy atmosphere, it serves great pub food, and is perfect for a Sunday roast after a drive across The Forest.
Dishes on the main menu include the likes of: steak and ale pie with seasonal vegetables and red wine gravy; pork and fennel ragu ravioli; beer-battered haddock and chips with an extra order of chip shop curry sauce; or baked sweet potato and fregola salad with spinach, pomegranate, chickpeas and a tahini dressing.
If you love a pudding – try their warm chocolate brownie peanut brittle with salted caramel and vanilla ice cream; or rhubarb, orange and ginger crumble with custard.
This is perfect as a walking or cycling pitstop, a pint of real ale with a Sunday lunch or a glass of crisp white wine if you’re sat in the garden.

Olives Direct
That Mediterranean vibe has to be a passion for most foodies, and the team at Olives Direct do it so well. These are tempting foods made using authentic Italian recipes and only the finest ingredients.
Award-winning olives are marinated with extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil and the freshest herbs. Unlike many olive producers, their olives are desalinated so they’re not bitter, just delicious. There’s plenty to try too – almond stuffed, contadino, limencello, garlic and chilli – to name just a few.
Their range also includes antipasti, infused oils and pestos. All are prepared by hand using the freshest ingredients and made to original recipes, many of which have been handed down through their families.
You can also order letterbox foodie gifts or letterbox olives by post, foodie gift subscriptions or gift vouchers.

New Forest Botanics
Looking for a toiletry range to complement their own hospitality businesses, Kate Rudge and Jax Dinnage created New Forest Botanics.
All of their products are developed and designed from the positive and stunning influences of the Forest. The range includes hand wash, hand lotion, body wash and body lotion. Candles, room sprays, reed diffusers, soaps, bath bombs, wax melts, gift boxes and hampers.
They also host candle-making workshops for groups of up to 12 people – a friendly, fun activity where everyone learns how to blend their own essential oils and take their candle home.
