The bustling market town of Ringwood is full of history, with scenic riverside walks and and stunning forest and countryside on its doorstep.

The town was founded by the Anglo Saxons and has an impressive food and drink pedigree. It’s Wednesday street market has been held in the Market Place since a charter was awarded in 1226, and held by the family of Lord Morant for hundreds of years.

As well as the Wednesday market the town hosts a monthly farmers market selling everything from homemade chutneys and jams to free-range eggs, meats, and baked goods.

The Alice Lisle, Ringwood

The Alice Lisle is one of those pubs you just want to keep going back to. It’s a beautiul traditional building sat in New Forest countryside with great views – and donkeys galore.

Inspired by their surroundings, award-winning chefs produce locally-sourced dishes.

The menu is a modern take on classics, with an imaginative and ever-changing specials board and, of course, a delicious Sunday roast each week – with all the trimmings.

New Forest Shortbread

Tracy Thew has made shortbread for family and friends for more than 50 years and New Forest Shortbread has been delighting visitors to the National Park since 2015.

What began as a personal pursuit has blossomed into a thriving local business where lovingly handcrafted batches of dough are baked and packaged in boxes featuring illustrations by local artists and stories about the New Forest.

If you stay in the Forest you may well have a selection of these in your room or holiday home – these lovelies are sold to hotels, cafes and pubs across the region!

Wyrd Gin from the New Forest Distillery Company

Wyrd (pronounced weird) may be an odd name, but the meaning perfectly captures the sentiment of the team who have always wanted to craft their own spirits. The Anglo-Saxon word was apparently used to describe the deep sense of personal destiny and connectivity to all those events and experiences around us, whether through fortune, fate or chance!

New Forest Spirits Distillery hand-crafts the award winning ‘Wyrd’ range of gins, and bottles them by hand. They use New Forest spring water, British grain spirit and high-quality botanical ingredients, sourced both locally and from around the world.

Visitors can also experience their distillery with tours and events, to take a deeper look at their production process and to sample ‘The Spirit of The New Forest®.’
