Otium Wine Estate

Otium Wine Estate is a family-run vineyard set on the Hampshire Hangers above the historic village of Selborne, within the South Downs National Park. Founded by Andrew and Emily Debnam, the estate was planted in 2021 with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, carefully selected to suit the site’s free-draining greensand soils and elevated aspect. The name “Otium” is drawn from an ancient Roman concept: a moment of pause after work, dedicated to rest, reflection and the enjoyment of life’s finer things. This philosophy underpins both the wines and the wider experience of the estate. Production is focused on small quantities of expressive, high-quality still and sparkling wines that reflect the character of the site and the vintage. The vineyard is managed with a sustainable, low-intervention approach, encouraging biodiversity through wildflower cover crops, native planting and careful soil stewardship. Beyond the vineyard, Otium offers a place to slow down and reconnect. Guests can enjoy tastings or stay in luxury, oak-framed vineyard cottages overlooking the vines, woodland and lakes, designed to provide a peaceful and refined rural escape. The estate also plans to open a cellar door shop and restaurant in autumn, further enhancing the visitor experience and creating a destination for both wine and food in the heart of Hampshire.
