Local Lyburn wins Best British Cheese in the World Cheese Awards

Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers from the New Forest have just won Best British Cheese at this year’s World Cheese Awards with their Stoney Cross.

The semi-hard, pasteurised cow’s milk cheese is made with vegetarian rennet and matured for 8 weeks by Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers near Salisbury. Stoney Cross was also named Best Specialist Cheesemakers Association Member cheese, sponsored by the Specialist Cheesemakers Association.

Stoney Cross won a Super Gold. This cheese is the youngest  offering from Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers. It’s mould ripened, not dissimilar to a French Tomme De Savoie. At eight weeks old it’s creamy and buttery in texture with sweet flavours and a distinctly earthy  finish. Absolutely delicious!

The Lyburn website has a list of stockists – so head out and taste a winner!
