Outside the town centre you’ll find the Bombay Sapphire Distillery and Highclere Castle, the stunning backdrop to Downton Abbey. There’s Watership Down, made famous by the Richard Adams book, and of course there’s the birthplace of novelist, Jane Austin. The River Test is at the heart of this region, which is world-renowned for its fly fishing and delicate chalk stream trout.
The region’s food and drink scene offers something for everyone, from fine dining restaurants, luxury hotels, country pubs and cafes to artisan bakeries, cheesemakers, coffee roasters and farm shops.
