Hot toddy – simple, sweet and warming for winter

From Downton Distillery

This hot toddy from the team at Downton Distillery seems perfect for the festive season and for some cheer into the depths of winter!

Downton tell us this is one of the easiest cocktails to help you banish those winter blues. It’s a warming sweet drink that you will be craving all winter, especially on those cold nights. The classic recipe uses either whiskey or rum as the base with hot water, lemon juice and honey. It is simple and easy to make with countless variations available online.

The Hot Toddy originated in India in 1610 as a drink made with fermented palm sap. By 1786 it was defined as an alcoholic drink made with hot water, spices, and sugar. It remains a common pub staple in England today during winter. In the US fruit infused toddies are often enjoyed and dominate over other hot alcohol beverages.

Our gin hot toddy is a take on the classic version. In adding hot water to the gin, the spirit will open up, releasing the aromas of the gin.
